To call Poke Poke a pioneer just doesn’t do it justice. Poke Poke has brought life to Zagreb’s culinary scene. It is the city’s first - and only - Hawaiian cuisine restaurant. Before Poke Poke, no one had even the slightest conception of poke. Now, it seems Zagrebers can’t get enough of it - and Studio Sudar is no exception. Seriously, we love this stuff. We should probably slow down.

The founder, Sanja, had a dream - to bring the undiscovered taste of poke to the people of Zagreb. And then that dream was real. Poke Poke opened in 2020, and has been a hit ever since. Poke Poke sources all its ingredients from local farms, and only uses fresh seafood in its recipes. Like any great culinary establishment, good food begets good design. Sanja tasked Sudar with crafting the restaurant’s brand identity from the ground up. With the promise of a discounted poke bowl here and there, we gladly accepted.

We began with the logo. Looking to the poke bowl itself for inspiration, we created a circular base. From there, we split the base into four quadrants - one for each ingredient - in a manner that resembles a poke bowl, and designed accordingly. 

Finally, we added a small fin and tail to hammer home the Hawaiian seafood theme. The final design allows for customization in a variety of colors, meant to reflect the near limitless combinations that customers can choose from at Poke Poke. For a little flair, we included a pair of chopsticks.

For the typographic identity, we opted for something contemporary. We used a sans serif typeface for the main logo - simple, but effective. The menu design also conforms to current trends. With its heavy use of block formatting and minimalist typographic hierarchy, the Poke Poke menu emphasizes user experience. No fluff, no confusion, just poke. 

Sanja was quite pleased with our design. We were more than happy to help the young restaurant, a very welcome addition to Zagreb’s ever-growing culinary scene. We can’t wait to see what Poke Poke has in store for the future - maybe a second establishment, ideally one close to the studio.
